After more than eighteen months of fieldwork in Cuba, three months in Puerto Rico, several years in New York City, and ongoing visits to the religious families described herein since 1998, I have attended more than a hundred spiritual masses as well as several dozen celebrations for La Regla de Ocha, and I can attest that no ceremony is ever the same as any other.
