Mixed results for Assam boxers in Eastern Open Talent Hunt in Guwahati

Assam boxers brought out a mixed result during the Eastern Open Talent Hunt programme being held at the DTRP Indoor Stadium in Guwahati. It is being organized by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), in collaboration with REC Limited, a Maharatna company under the Ministry of Power.

The event witnessed spirited competitions among junior and sub-junior boxers from various states, showcasing their prowess in the ring.

In the junior girls’ category, Rangdhali Papgiri of Assam emerged victorious in the (44-46kg) weight class by defeating her state compatriot Tamanna Das Gupta. Meanwhile, in the (46-48kg) category, Nyasum Bam of Arunachal Pradesh secured a win against Prenika Muchahary of Assam. In the junior boys’ division, Himanshu Bora of Assam triumphed over Shivam Singh of Haryana in the (44-46kg) category, while Prince Doley of Assam emerged victorious in the (50-52kg) weight class by defeating Hamamtalo of Arunachal Pradesh.

Subsequently, Nahang Sumnian of Arunachal Pradesh clinched victory in the (54-57kg) category against Aryan Kashyap of Assam, while Subhiraj outshone Arman Khan in the (57-60kg) category, both representing Assam. In the sub-junior boys’ section, Ayan Saikia of Assam defeated Prabhu of Tamil Nadu in the (40-43kg) category, and Saimon Chetri overcame Arbin Singh, also from Assam, in the same weight class. Moreover, Rajani Doley emerged victorious in the (46-49kg) category against Jayan Boro, both representing Assam.

The event provided a platform for budding boxers to showcase their skills and talent, with winners earning the opportunity to participate in pruning trials for potential inclusion in the BFI’s national camps. These winners will undergo training under the guidance of experienced coaches and mentors, with the prospect of representing the nation at various levels of competition.

With the completion of the junior and sub-junior events, anticipation mounts for the elite and youth categories scheduled to take place from March 12 to 18. These tournaments not only offer a platform for budding boxers to exhibit their skills but also pave the way for their potential inclusion in national camps and representation at international levels, thereby contributing to the growth and development of Indian boxing.
